New Sisley-Paris Eye Products: review and swatches

Sisley-Paris recently launched some new products that I’ve been really enjoying and wanted to share with you all – the Ombre Eclat Liquide Liquid Eyeshadow and the Phyto-Kohl Star Waterproof Eyeliner, which are not new, but recently launched with new shades.

Ombre Eclat Liquide Liquid Eyeshadow

First are the Ombre Eclat Liquide Liquid Eyeshadow. They are $58 for .21oz/6.5 ml of product and come in 6 shades that all have a shimmer finish. They are available on the Sisley website, and at most retailers that sell Sisley, including Beautylish, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and  Saks.

There are luminous liquid shadows that come in mostly neutral shades plus a deep greyed khaki. The shades are:

• 1 – Beige, a light frosty champagne shade that has a little more glitter than the other shades
• 2 – Brown,  a neutral toned lightly shimmery tan shade
• 3 – Pink, a rose gold shade with shimmer
• 4 – Orange, a coppery orange shade with a slight hint of glitter
• 5 – Bronze, a warmer bronze shade with shimmer
• 6 – Green, a khaki shade with a bit of gunmetal base with more glitter than other shades

The formula is liquid but it isn’t so liquid the colors just blend away. The shades start off sheer with a subtle shimmer and can be built up to a more medium coverage. The shades themselves vary from a satin pearl to a more sparkly shimmer, but they are still a much more subtle shimmer that prevents it from looking like a glitter shadow. 

I find this formula really easy to work with, and I like to apply the product straight with the doe-foot applicator onto my eyelids, and then blend it out with my fingers. The formula is supposed to be crease-resistant, and I certainly find that to be true for me. Since I have oily eyelids, I always wear an eyelid primer, and even then a lot of eyeshadows crease on me after a few hours. With eyeshadows, these eyeshadows had around 8 hours of lasting power before I started to notice any creasing.

I find these shadows really easy to use and they work really well for my everyday routine. The variety of neutrals are the kinds of shades I reach for often, and they would be well suited for a person who prefers an easy natural look.

Whether they are worth $58 or not is subjective. The formula works as advertised, the shades are beautifully elegant, and the packaging feels luxurious and sturdy, but they are not especially unique shades. If I had not received them as press samples, I would certainly not buy all 6 shades, but I would pick 1 or 2 that are most suitable for me. If you like luxury makeup and the price point is not a concern for you, then these are great to check out. 

For an alternative, these shadows remind me of the Armani Beauty Eye Tints which are nearly half the price at $30, though I find that in comparison, the Eye Tints are lighter, which may be a good or bad thing depending on your preference. The Eye Tints have a consistency that is a touch more liquidy, and a slightly sheerer, but equally buildable finish. The Armani Beauty Eye Tints also come in far more shades, so that may be an advantage if the Sisley ones don’t come in a shade that calls to you.

Phyto-Kohl Star Waterproof Eyeliners

The Phyto-Kohl Star Waterproof Eyeliners are $62 for .01oz/.3g of product, and they released 6 new shades, bringing their total shade count to 16. They are also available at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstrom.

These are retractable gel eyeliner pencils that have a very thin tip for precise application. When I first opened these I was surprised by how weighty the pencils felt, which is because of the heavy packaging that almost feel like metal. The new shades are all matte shades that are also safe for the waterline. The shades are:

• 1 – Matte Onyx, a deep black shade
• 2 – Matte Tonka, a deep cool brown shade
• 3 – Matte Jungle, a rich forest green shade
• 4 – Matte Graphite, a cool slate gray shade
• 5 – Matte Peacock, aptly named as a matte peacock shade
• 6 – Matte Chestnut, a warm medium brown

The formula is extremely smooth and richly pigmented. They glide onto my eyelids easily, and the fine tip allows me to be precise and apply the product close to my lashline. While this formula has a nice glide, I don’t find them too emollient where they start to smudge easily. The formula gives me a few seconds to soften and blend the line before they set down. 

Eyeliners are extremely prone to smudging and transferring on me, and these eyeliners performed above average over most eyeliners. There is a little bit of smudging and transferring after 6-7 hours, and most eyeliners start to transfer after around 4-5 hours for me. I’m also impressed that the pigment doesn’t fade after an entire day of wear. 

My favorite shade is 2, Matte Tonka. I love a good cool brown liner, and this one is just the right tone and depth to give me really nice definition without being black. It’s the shade I’ve been reaching for the most ever since receiving these liners, and it’s the type of shade I’m always on the hunt for. The tone is just a touch cooler than most brown liners, but it doesn’t veer into a taupe shade.

The question still stands – are these worth $62? It’s really hard for me to swallow that high of a price tag for eyeliners, especially one with so little product. For me, Matte Tonka is really the standout shade, as I’m always looking for shades like this. I haven’t seen a dupe for this shade in other lines, but the other shades, especially the black and brown shades, are easily dupable. Again, if you enjoy luxury makeup, the formula of these is really lovely, but I wouldn’t rush out to get these – unless you want a cool brown shade like Matte Tonka.

Sisley-Paris is definitely one of the most luxurious and expensive brands I’ve tried, and for the most part, I find their formulas and products to also be well thought out and luxurious. I always enjoy using their products, though their products are at a price point that I am not willing to shell out on an everyday basis.I can’t answer whether or not these products are “worth it,” since I find that idea to be subjective to every person’s spending habits. If spending $50-$60 on a single product is an outrageously high price point for you, then I doubt you would find these products worth it. If Sisley Paris is a brand that you enjoy and price tag is not a concern for you, I’d recommend both products. My top recommendation and most used products from these sets are the Liquid Eyeshadow in #2 and eyeliner in Matte Tonka – and these are also the products I’d be likely to purchase on my own if I felt like splurging.
